Chapter 2

The next morning, Elena arrived at Voss Global’s headquarters at 8:45, determined not to be late. She was wearing a crisp white blouse and a black pencil skirt, her hair pulled back in a neat ponytail, her makeup subtle but polished. She wanted to look professional, to prove that she belonged in that meeting— that she deserved to be there, even if she was just a junior account manager.
The lobby was grand, with marble floors, a chandelier that sparkled like stars, and a reception desk staffed by a woman in a tailored suit. Elena gave her name, and the receptionist smiled, telling her that Mr. Voss was expecting her. She led Elena to the elevator, pressing the button for the 50th floor— the penthouse, where Christian’s office and the meeting room were located.
When the elevator doors opened, Christian was standing in the hallway, talking to a man in a gray suit— his right-hand man, Luca, Elena assumed. He turned when he saw her, his gray eyes scanning her from head to toe. His expression was neutral, but she could have sworn she saw a flicker of approval in his eyes.
“You’re on time,” he said, his voice flat. “Good.”
“I made sure to leave early, sir,” she replied, standing up straight.
Luca looked at her, his gaze curious, but he didn’t say anything. He just nodded, then turned back to Christian. “The Miller team is on their way, boss. They should be here in five minutes.”
“Good,” Christian said. “Let’s get this over with. Elena, come with me.”
He led her into the meeting room— a large, sleek room with a long conference table, leather chairs, and floor-to-ceiling windows that offered a stunning view of the city. He sat at the head of the table, and Elena sat to his right, as he gestured for her to do. Luca sat to his left, and a few other executives filed in shortly after.
The Miller team arrived a few minutes later— three men in expensive suits, led by Mr. Miller himself, a portly man with a red face and a booming voice. He shook Christian’s hand, then turned to the rest of the room, his gaze landing on Elena.
“Who’s this?” he asked, raising an eyebrow.
“Elena Carter,” Christian said, his voice leaving no room for questions. “She’s the account manager handling your file. She knows the details better than anyone.”
Mr. Miller looked surprised, but he didn’t argue. “Pleased to meet you, Ms. Carter.”
“Pleased to meet you too, Mr. Miller,” Elena said, smiling politely.
The meeting started, and Elena quickly proved her worth. She answered every question Mr. Miller had, explained the numbers clearly, and even pointed out a few opportunities for the Miller company to save money— opportunities that Christian himself hadn’t noticed. As she spoke, she could feel Christian’s gaze on her, warm and intense, and it gave her the confidence to keep going.
When the meeting ended, Mr. Miller shook Elena’s hand again, praising her for her work. “You’re a sharp one, Ms. Carter,” he said. “I’m glad we’re working with you.”
“Thank you, sir,” she said, blushing slightly.
After the Miller team left, the other executives filed out, leaving Elena, Christian, and Luca in the room. Luca excused himself, closing the door behind him, and suddenly, it was just the two of them.
“You did well,” Christian said, leaning back in his chair, his gaze locked onto hers. “Better than well. You impressed Miller. That’s not easy to do.”
“Thank you, sir,” she said, her heart racing. “I just did my job.”
“No,” he said, shaking his head. “You did more than that. You took charge. You were confident. You didn’t let anyone intimidate you— not even me.”
He stood up, walking around the table until he was standing behind her chair. He placed his hands on the back of the chair, leaning down so that his face was inches from hers. His breath fanned her neck, sending a shiver down her spine. “You’re dangerous, Elena,” he whispered, his voice low and husky. “Dangerous for me.”
Elena’s heart stopped. She turned her head, looking up at him. His gray eyes were dark, filled with a passion she’d never seen before— a passion that scared her, but also pulled her in. “Mr. Voss, I—”
“Call me Christian,” he said, cutting her off. “When we’re alone, call me Christian.”
“Christian,” she whispered, testing the name on her lips. It felt intimate, forbidden— like she was crossing a line she couldn’t come back from.
He smiled, a real smile this time— warm, genuine, and breathtaking. “There we go,” he said. “You have no idea how long I’ve been waiting to hear you say my name like that.”
Elena’s mind was racing. She knew this was wrong. He was her boss— her very powerful, very dangerous boss. She was just a junior account manager. They could never be anything more than that. But as he looked at her, as his hands brushed against hers, she couldn’t help but want more. She wanted to feel his touch, to hear his voice, to be close to him— even if it meant putting everything at risk.
“Christian, we can’t,” she said, her voice trembling. “You’re my boss. It’s unprofessional. It’s—”
“I don’t care,” he said, his voice firm. “I don’t care about professional. I don’t care about the rules. All I care about is you. From the moment you walked into my office yesterday, soaked from the rain, standing your ground even though you were terrified— I knew I had to have you. You’re mine, Elena. Whether you like it or not, you’re mine.”
He leaned down, pressing his lips to hers. It was a soft, gentle kiss at first— tentative, like he was testing the waters. But when Elena didn’t pull away, when she leaned into him, his kiss deepened, becoming more passionate, more urgent. His hands wrapped around her waist, pulling her closer, and she wrapped her arms around his neck, losing herself in him.
The kiss was everything— warm, intense, electrifying. It was the kind of kiss that made her forget where she was, forget who she was, forget everything except him. When they pulled apart, both of them were breathless, their foreheads pressed together.
“I want you,” he whispered, his voice husky with desire. “I want you more than anything I’ve ever wanted in my life.”
Elena looked into his eyes, seeing the raw passion, the vulnerability, the truth in his words. She knew she should say no, should push him away, should run out of the room and never look back. But she couldn’t. She wanted him too— more than she’d ever wanted anyone.
“I want you too,” she whispered.
He smiled, kissing her again, softer this time, but just as passionate. “Good,” he said. “Because you’re not getting rid of me now. I’m going to take care of you, Elena. I’m going to give you everything you’ve ever dreamed of. But you have to promise me one thing.”
“What?” she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
“Promise me you’ll stay with me,” he said, his eyes locking onto hers. “Promise me you won’t let fear push you away. Because I can’t lose you. Not now. Not ever.”
Elena nodded, tears stinging her eyes. She didn’t know what the future held, didn’t know if this would end in heartbreak or happiness. But she knew one thing— she couldn’t walk away from him. Not when he looked at her like she was his entire world.
“I promise,” she said.
He pulled her into his arms, holding her tight, as if he were afraid she’d disappear if he let go. The rain was still falling outside, but inside the meeting room, it was warm, and safe, and filled with the promise of something new— something dangerous, something beautiful, something that would change both of their lives forever.
Christian Voss had always been a man who got what he wanted. But for the first time in his life, he didn’t just want power, or money, or success. He wanted her— Elena Carter, the small, brave woman who had walked into his office and turned his world upside down. And he would do whatever it took to keep her— even if it meant breaking all the rules, even if it meant showing the world the vulnerable side of himself he’d hidden for so long.
Elena leaned into his chest, listening to his heartbeat, feeling the warmth of his body against hers. She knew this was risky, knew that being with her boss could cost her her job, her reputation, everything. But as she closed her eyes, she smiled. Because for the first time in her life, she felt alive— truly, completely alive. And she knew that with Christian by her side, she could face anything.
The storm outside was fading, the sun breaking through the clouds, casting a golden light over the city. And inside, two people— a powerful tycoon and a ordinary woman— had found something neither of them had ever expected: love. Forbidden, intense, unbreakable love. And nothing in the world would ever tear them apart.
